Here at Serve Moses Lake we are thanking God for another year of ministry that has been fully supported by generous donations from faithful local givers. This year, donations not only kept our office running to serve meals and meet the daily, ongoing needs of those in crisis, but they also supported 7 Back-2-School events. The Back-2-School event is our largest outreach event, and year after year it proves to be a bright light in our schools; students, parents, teachers, and school staff alike are positively impacted by this event. We see so much good fruit coming from the donations already being invested in the community.
Developing a Sustainable Ministry
As you may know, we receive no government grants to support the work we do. With only two paid staff and a small office rental, we keep our overhead as low as possible. So far, this model has allowed us to save money for development of new ministry projects. Several years ago, we supported the opening and operations of the Transformation House ministry. The ministry, although fruitful, proved to be too costly for our donor base to support.
As we look back at that ministry, we also look forward to how the Lord may want to move us over the next few years. We are currently developing a ministry model that will allow us to journey closer and at greater length with our clients- an aspect of the Transformation House ministry that we really love and miss.
We are also taking a close look at our current ministry model and noticing the aspects that are most heavily utilized. We believe there are certain services we provide (or could provide) that are essential to the most vulnerable people in Moses Lake but are not being offered by other service agencies. It has become obvious to us that there is room for us to grow. Our development fund is growing, but not at a pace that will support an expansion of services.
Our vision is to move to a larger facility where we can serve daily meals to the community and offer a place for our clients to further connect with volunteers from our local church body. We would also like to consider a facility that would allow us to host the homeless warming center during the cold winter months.
As 2016 quickly draws to an end, we would ask you to consider giving towards our Development Fund. We would like 2017 to be a year of seeking guidance from the Lord to solidify plans for the future of our ministry. We are so thankful for your faithful partnership and we are excited to see how the Lord may deepen our relationship and the service we do together in this community. As always, we are available to answer any questions you may have and we would also welcome you to our office to experience your dollars at work in the community. We invite you to be part of stepping forward in service to Moses Lake.
